Camp Josh recently hosted a special fishing event coordinated and planned by Ontonagon County 4-H, with participation from representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Two USFWS employees joined the event to share their knowledge about sea lamprey and the important work being done to control their populations throughout the Great Lakes region.

Camp Josh was proud to be among more than 45 community vendors at the Copper Shores Community-Wide Picnic on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the George Gipp Recreation Area and Ice Arena.

Camp Josh recently added two side-by-side vehicles that support both recreation and daily tasks. A Can-Am Defender, purchased from Timberline Sports in Bergland, allows us to take up to five campers plus a driver on trail rides around camp.

Exciting progress is underway on the Camp Josh Learning Center! Construction has started and the facility is taking shape as a dynamic hub for educational programming, veteran workshops, skills training, and community gatherings. The Learning Center will help Camp Josh move toward a year-round resource for veterans, youth, and families across the Upper Peninsula — one of the most significant investments in the camp's history.

Camp Josh is proud to announce a generous donation received from the Watersmeet Trout Hatchery. This contribution supports the camp's ongoing mission to provide meaningful outdoor recreational experiences for veterans and youth.

Camp Josh's Annual Fundraising Banquet was a huge success, bringing together supporters, veterans, community members, donors, and volunteers for an inspiring evening celebrating the mission of Camp Josh.

We are incredibly grateful to Gino’s and everyone who participated in the Grinch Giving Tree this 2025 holiday season. Thanks to your generosity, the Grinch’s heart grew to $401, and with Gino’s matching that amount dollar for dollar, the total donation reached $802. This gift will make a real and lasting impact on our programs and the individuals we serve.

Andrew Norris secured his position as the second triumphant bear hunter at Camp Josh, thanks to Ralph Workman's kind contribution of a bear tag.

Tony and Joe along with SCI, donated an Action Trackchair to Camp Josh during a May event. This ultimate all-terrain wheelchair offers the campers at Camp Josh significantly more freedom and mobility.

Mark Hansen of Timberline Sport in Bergland, Michigan, a Can-Am distributor, provided a wonderful surprise for Camp Josh. Also participating in the MI-Trale Fall Color ride from Ontonagon fair grounds to the Twin Lakes State Park. This has been a wonderful treat for all of the campers, visitors and friends of Camp Josh. Again a huge Thank you to Can-Am and Timberline Sports.

Students in Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District’s center-based programs spent Friday morning fishing at Camp Josh.

At the beginning of summer, Camp Josh needed major pond/dam work, and we weren’t certain that we’d be able to host events this year, but the pond and dam were repaired and bolstered nicely, and we refilled the pond in short order. Then the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Hatchery in Pequaming graciously donated 300 rainbow trout In the 13-16 inch range. And voila, we were ready for business.
